Four Tarn Taran villagers, including a woman, were killed on Sunday evening when their Toytoa car carrying 13 crashed into a stationary tractor-trailer near Kaler village on the Amritsar road in Faridkot district.
Driver Joginder Singh and passengers Jagtar Singh (50) Avtar Singh (52), and Manjeet Kaur (35), who were killed on the spot, were from Kachcha Pakka in Patti subdivision of Tran Taran district. Nine others, including two children, were injured seriously.
The injured — Sukhwant Kaur (55), Kulwinder Singh (65), Harpal Singh (35), Narinder Kaur (60), Jagir Kaur (55), Balwinder Kaur (53), Sukhwinder (14), and Gurpinder (7) —were moved to Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital in Faridkot, where their condition is stated to be stable. The party was heading to Anupgarh in Rajasthan to seek faith healing for a member.
Police have registered a case under Sections 304-A(causing death by rash and negligent driving), 279 (rash driving on public way), 337 (endangering the life and safety of others), 338 (causing grievous injury and endangering life), and 427 (mischief causing a petty amount of damage) against the driver who parked the tractor-trailer on the road. “He is now on the run,” said assistant sub-inspector Rajbeer Singh of the police post at Kaler.
