Four LPU students held on attempt to murder charge

Phagwara police today arrested four students of Lovely Professional University (LPU) near Jalandhar on charge of attempt to murder. Accused Naresh Kumar, Sunny Malik, Ankur Sagwan and Ankush Poonia had allegedly attacked two BBA students due to old enmity.

Phagwara police on Monday arrested four students of Lovely Professional University (LPU) near here on charges of attempt to murder.


They have been identified as Naresh Kumar of Vatla village of Hisar district, Haryana, a student of BBA, Sunny Malik of Madhuwan village of Baghpat district, Uttar Pradesh, a BTech (computer) student, Ankur Sagwan of Judge Kalan village of Bhiwani district, Haryana, a BTech student, and Ankush Poonia of Surudpur Khurd village of Meerut district, Uttar Pradesh, also a BTech student.

The police said the four, along with their accomplices, had attacked two BBA students of the university with sharp-edged weapons on the national highway near Chaheru on May 7 over some old enmity.

The Sadar police subsequently registered a case against them on charges of attempt to murder and voluntarily causing grievous hurt.

The accused, who had been absconding since then, were arrested from Nanak Nagri village. They have been remanded in two-day police custody and their interrogation is on.
