Days after three out of the total nine accused in the advocate Vineet Mahajan assault case were arrested, the City police on Monday claimed to have arrested four more accused in this connection, taking the total number of arrests to seven.
However, two other accused, including BJP councillor Prabhjit Rataul, are still at large. Police on Monday arrested Sahil, alias, Sabu, of Maiyan Wala Mohalla, and Vishal of Fatehgarh Churian Road; while on Saturday (May 17), Bau, alias, Baingan, and Vikram, alias, Vicky, both residents of Thekewali Gali, Fatehgarh Churian Road, were arrested in this connection.
Following the Punjab and Haryana high court’s directions, three accused — Raj Kumar, alias, Raju; Pawan Kumar, alias, Pammu, both residents of Sanjay Gandhi Colony, Fatehgarh Churian Road; and Ashok Kumar, alias, Gocha, of Nai Abadi were arrested on May 15.
Advocate Vineet Mahajan had charged local bodies’ minister Anil Joshi with “engineering the attack on him” due to ongoing court cases against the minister. However, Joshi had denied any involvement in the attack, stating that his name was being dragged to malign his political image.
“Seven, out of the total nine accused have so far been arrested. Efforts are on to arrest the other two absconding accused as well,” said Jatinder Singh Aulakh, police commissioner, Amritsar.
