Four of a family die in road accident

Four member of a family died in a road accident that took place near Tarsikka on Monday morning,while one person sustained injuries in the incident.The incident occurred at about 5:00 AM when the driver of the car, by which the family that hailed from Qadian and had come over to the city to pay obeisance at the Golden Temple was commuting, dozed off while driving causing the car to ram into a roadside tree.

The deceased have been identified as Ajit Singh (50),a resident of Qadian, his wife Balwinder Kaur (48), son Vijay Singh (19) and nephew Karan Singh (12). The four were accompanied by Manjot Kaur (21), a daughter of the deceased couple, who sustained injuries in the incident. They had come to Amritsar to pay obeisance at the Golden Temple on Sunday night.

"They started their return journey for Qadian on Monday morning at 4:00 AM. At about 5:00 AM, the Ajit Singh, who was driving the car, began to feel sleepy. He dozed off in the way because of which the car lost control and rammed into a roadside tree killing four of the five occupants of the car," said Sub Inspector Harjit Singh, of Mattewal Police Station.

He added that Manjot Kaur had been admitted to hospital for treatment of her injuries. "The matter is being investigated under section 174 CrPC. The corpses shall soon be sent for postmortem," he said.
