Celebrations turned into gloom early Friday when four members of a bride's family were killed in a road accident after the wedding.

Bal Kishan Modi of Abohar, his wife Sarita, son Ishu and grandson Pawan were killed near Usmankhera village on way to Abohar from Sriganganagar. Priyanka, a friend of Modi's daughter and bride Ankita, was injured critically.

Modi's car crashed into a roadside tree as he tried to avoid a stray cow on the road, killing all passengers, except Sarita and Priyanka. Sarita died on way to a hospital while Priyanka was under treatment in a Sriganganagar hospital.

Abohar legislator Sunil Jakhar, who is also leader of the opposition in the Punjab assembly, has expressed grief over the tragedy.
