Four members of a family were killed when a speeding truck rammed into a motorcycle they were riding on at Sujanpur on Pathankot-Jammu national highway on Sunday evening.

The long body truck was carrying construction material from Madhopur to Faridkot when it hit the bike moving in the same direction and crushed all the four victims.

The deceased were identified as Yash Pal (35), his wife Kamlesh (30) and sons Love(3) and Kush (1). Yash Pal was a cobbler who ran a shop outside Dinanagar bus stand.

A police team, led by DSP (rural) Prabhjot Singh Virk, which was incidentally on the road at that time, chased the truck that sped away after the accident and nabbed the driver within a few minutes.

DSP Virk told HT that the ill-fated family was returning from the house of a relative in Sujanpur and were on way to Dinanagar when this accident occurred.

The bodies of the deceased were sent to Pathankot civil hospital for postmortem, he said.

"We have impounded the truck (PB03 X3383) and have arrested driver Bunty, a resident of Baja Khana in Faridkot district," he added.

Meanwhile, a pall of gloom descended on Dinanagar as the news reached the town. Deepak Kumar, a neighbour of the deceased, said that the entire town was shocked in the wake of the tragedy as Yash Pal was a hard working person. He said that the town had yet not recovered from the shock of the death of one youth whose body was found in the garbage dump on Wednesday.
