Four police officials get three years jail for abducting youth

The court of the judicial magistrate sentenced four police officials to three years imprisonment on Saturday for abducting a youth from Kot-Ise-Khan in this district on July 2004.

Surjit Kaur, a resident of Kot-Ise-Khan and mother of the youth Manjit Singh, had complained at the Kot-Ise-Khan police station that officials had abducted her son in 2004 without any solid reason. She had filed a complaint at the Punjab and Haryana high court for seeking an independent probe in the matter.
According to information, the local police had conducted an inquiry and found the officials concerned guilty.

The Kot-Ise-Khan police had registered a criminal case against assistant sub inspector Ajmer Singh, ASI Vikram Singh, head constable Gurjant Singh and constable Sahib Singh who were appointed as Zira CIA staff, under sections 365, 343, 384, 323 of the IPC.

The court also imposed a fine of Rs 2,000 each on them.
