Municipal Corporation Jalandhar (MCJ) has been allotting tenders of almost all the major projects to single Mumbai-based firm and this has raised questions over the working of the civic body.
Darashaw Pvt Ltd, a Mumbai based consultancy firm is currently handling four major projects of the city.
Despite the fact that the e-tendering process is in place to choose suitable contenders for any particular project in a transparent manner which also gives multiple options to the governing body for allotting the work, only Darashaw has been able to meet all requirements laid down by it for the last two years.
MCJ officials claimed that since the company has every time succeeded to meet their criteria, it has been getting the projects.
Kulvinder Singh superintendent engineer buildings and roads (B&R) said since the e-tendering process has been implemented, the company has quoted lowest bid in all the instances and that is why they got the projects.
The move has raised many questions especially in the internal circle of the civic body as well as the opposition as to why only Darashaw has been given all the major projects of the MCJ.
In fact in May, HT through an RTI (right to information) tried to find out about the major projects that MCJ has been currently carrying out along with the details of the company that have been outsourced but failed to get the clear answer even after two months.
