Thieves struck at four shops in Sunami Gate area in Sangrur and stole Rs 1.3 lakh in cash and other goods on Wednesday midnight.

The accused also stole CCTV cameras and their footage from the shops. This is the second such burglary within a week in the city.

Police said it seemed the same gang was behind the four thefts as the shutters of all shops, a grocery store, a garments shop and two medical stores, were broken in the same manner.

The garments store, Megha Emporium, suffered a loss of Rs 70,000 in cash and clothes worth Rs 60,000.

Besides, the thieves decamped with Rs 35,000 in cash from CP Medical Hall and Rs 10,000 from Hira Medical Hall. The grocery store, Mittal Karyana Store, claimed a loss of Rs 15,000 in cash.

A team of fingerprint experts collected clues from all shops. Police said a case had been registered against the unidentified accused and investigation was on in the matter.

Earlier, ornaments and cash worth Rs 25 lakh were stolen from a jewellery shop on December 31st. The police are still groping in the dark in the matter.
