In the third such crime against city’s children in the past week, a four-year-old girl was kidnapped and smothered to death in Azad Nagar area of Daba. The accused then packed the body in a sack and threw it in the garbage dump on a vacant plot of the area.

The victim, Gudiya, was playing outside her rented accommodation in Azad Nagar area of Daba, when she went missing under mysterious circumstances on Saturday.

Her father, Sunil Kumar, an electrician, said on not finding Gudiya, they started looking for her.

But when they couldn’t trace her, they approached the local police on Saturday evening and filed a missing report. Meanwhile, they got news that a sack was found in a garbage dump on a vacant plot.

“We reached the spot with police and found the sack, which was tied up with a rope. When we opened the sack, I was shocked to find my daughter’s lifeless body in it,” Kumar bewailed.

Thereafter, the Daba police re gistered a case of murder against the unidentified accused and initiated investigation. Suspecting it to be the handiwork of the victim family’s acquaintance, the police have rounded up three suspects and are questioning them.

According to inspector Sarabjit Singh, station house officer (SHO) at Daba police station, there were finger marks on the victim’s face making it apparent that she was smothered to death. Besides there were other injury marks on her face.

“No marks of sexual assault were found on the victim’s body. But the police have asked the doctors conducting the autopsy to examine whether the victim was raped. If sexual assault is confirmed, the police would add sections of rape in the FIR,” Singh added.
