Fresh snowfall in Himachal, Shimla experiences coldest night of season

Fresh spell of snow in the higher reaches of Himachal Pradesh has brought the mercury down across the hill state.

Higher altitude areas in Shimla, Chamba, Kinnaur, Kullu, Lahaul and Spiti districts have witnessed season’s first snowfall in the last 24 hours intensifying cold waves in the state.

Keylong in the tribal district of Lahaul and spiti and Kalpa of Kinnaur district received season’s first spell of snow onThursday, while Kharapathar in Shimla and higher reaches of Chamba received snowfall on Friday morning.

As per the meteorological department, Kalpa received 2 cm of snowfall while Keylong received 3cm of snow.

The change in weather has compelled people to pull out woolens to keep themselves warm. The state capital Shimla experienced coldest night of the season with minimum temperature recorded at 4.3 degree celsius, while Keylong recorded a minimum temperature of -0.7 degree celsius.

Tourist town of Manali and and Bhuntar in Kullu recorded a minimum temperature of 0.2 degrees and 7.5 degrees respectively.

Shimla meteorological centre director Manmohan Singh said: “Weather is expected to remain dry from tomorrow onwards.”

Meanwhile, rains lashed several places across the state.

Manali recorded 16mm of rainfall, Banjar 14mm, Bhorang (Hamirpur) 13 mm, Bhuntar 10mm, Seobagh (Kullu) 13mm, Sarahan and Dalhousie each recorded 8mm of rainfall.
