Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (GADVASU) has issued instructions to deans and directors of the university to prohibit and eliminate the scourge of ragging.

PD Juyal, registrar, said the colleges of the university had constituted anti-raging committees and anti-ragging squads. "GADVASU is strictly following the preventive measures for anti-ragging. The names the committees and squads' members have been displayed on the website of the university. The college has also undertaken several other measures of campaign to prevent ragging," said Juyal.

HS Sandhu, dean, College of Veterinary Science, said a booklet consisting of names and telephone numbers of the anti-raging committees/squads would be provided to each student at the time of registration. "All the wardens of the hostels and professional counsellors have been directed to ensure to follow the directions of the Supreme Court and Justice Raghavan Committee recommendations without exception. An affidavit must be obtained from every students parent/guardian separately to desist from ragging and for punishment to the defaulters," said Sandhu.

SPS Sangha, dean, students welfare-cum-estate officer, stated that the university had uploaded a film on anti-ragging on its website and students in distress, owing to ragging-related incidents, could access the telephone numbers displayed on the website.

"University authorities are vigilant to smell anything foul. We are guiding and counselling new and old students to develop a cordial and harmonious atmosphere on the campus. Stern action will be taken against mischievous students, who will indulge in any act of ragging," Sangha said.

Sangha further said that GADVASU was extending all information related to ragging and displaying it on notice boards of the university to make the students aware.
