Gang busted, six arrested; 21 stolen two-wheelers recovered

The police claim to have busted a gang of car-lifters and robbers with the arrest of six of its members on Saturday, from whose possession 21 two-wheelers, 45 mobile phones and 4 gold chains have been seized.
The accused have been identified as Ankit, Vikas Kochar, Krishan Kumar, Sahil Masih, Varinder Singh and Honey Nahar, all residents of Tajpur road.
Assistant commissioner of police (crime), Gurbans Singh Bains, said the CIA staff put up a checkpoint near Vardhman Mills on Chandigarh road and arrested the accused and recovered 3 motorcycles, 4 gold chains and 21 mobile phones from their possession. Later, the police recovered 18 more motorcycles on the basis of the information provided by the accused.
Bains said the all the accused are drug addicts and entered the world of crime to meet their drug expenses. The accused used to target the migrants and women and snatch mobile phones, purses and cash from them. When the police arrested the accused, they were on their way to sell the mobile phones and gold chains.
Varinder Singh Vicky is the kingpin of the gang, who is already facing a criminal case, registered against him at the Sarabha Nagar police station. Another accused Sahil Maseeh also has criminal background.
"After stealing a two-wheeler the accused used to fake the registeration number plate and hide it at public parking lots. Six stolen motorcycles were recovered from the parking lot of Shaheed Sukhdev Thapar inter-state bus terminal," said the ACP.
"More revelations are expected to come to fore during the interrogation of the accused," he added. A case has been registered against the accused at the Division 7 police station under sections 379, 382 and 411 of the IPC.
