Gang involved in forging documents busted

With the arrest of seven persons, the city police on Thursday busted a gang involved in arranging bail for arrested accused on the basis of fake and forged documents. The police have recovered huge quantity of fake documents including voter cards, Identity cards and fake rubber stamps of government officials.

Acting on a tip off that such a gang is operational in the Rajinder Nagar area, a trap was laid and one person identified as Pawan Kumar was arrested when he was ensuring bail to a person, deputy commissioner of Police, Sarabjit Singh told reporters.

On the revelation of Kumar, who is kingpin of the gang, six other accused identified as Deepak Kumar, Mehar Singh, Raj Kumar Raju, Ajay Singh Ashok Kumar and Sanjeev Arora were also arrested.

Sanjeev is owner of Jagdambay Computers at Dhann Mohalla, where the fake documents were made on computers, DCP said adding that during investigation it has come to light that so far the gang had arranged bail for about 200 accused.

“Even bail of Gagan Kanojia, convicted in a famous case of kidnapping and murdering of two kids in 2000, was ensued by them”, Singh said.

Huge quantity of fake voter cards, 300 fake identity cards, 15 fake rubber stamps of numberdars, 30 fake mutation deeds, fake registration certificates of vehicles and a computer and printer were recovered from the arrested accused, he said.

It is yet to be ascertained that the gang has arranged bail for how many hard core criminals for which an intensive investigation is on, the DCP said without ruling out involvement of government employees in the racket, as without the connivance of some insider, such kind of forgery of government documents could not be possible.

“Even the persons, on whose name the fake documents like voter cards were made would also be traced and arrested, as ultimately they were to be presented for the bail to any accused in the court”, DCP added.

During preliminary interrogation, it has come to light that the gang was operational in other states including national capital too.
