Gang involved in making fake degrees busted, two arrested

The city police, on Thursday, claimed to have busted a gang forging educational degrees of universities and passports, with the arrest of two immigration agents and recovery of 24 fake degrees and three passports from their possession.

The city police, on Thursday, claimed to have busted a gang forging educational degrees of universities and passports, with the arrest of two immigration agents and recovery of 24 fake degrees and three passports from their possession.


Acting on a tip off that an immigration agency, Seven Overseas Travel Agent, functioning from near the bus stand, faked degrees and passports, a raid was conducted, ACP Sarabjit Singh told reporters.

Fake degrees of Panjab University, Chandigarh, and Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar were recovered.

Akash and Supreet Singh, agents present in the premises at the time of the raid, were arrested. The ACP said that during preliminary interrogation, the accused have admitted to forging degrees.

A computer, scanner and printer, used to make the fake degrees were recovered, the ACP added.

The alleged masterminds of the gang, Mandeep Singh Lucky, and Munish Kalra, were absconding, the ACP said.

A case under Section 420 (fraud) of the IPC has been registered at police station division number 7.
