The Batala police claimed to have busted a gang of criminals with the arrest of four of its members while three of their accomplices managed to flee.
The police recovered one .315 bore pistol, one .12 bore pistol, four alive cartridges, one dagger and 1.350 kg narcotic powder from their possession.
In a press conference, Batala senior superintendent of police (SSP) Manminder Singh said that after getting a tip-off that some persons were planning a big robbery near Jharianwal drain, a police team, led by Civil Lines SHO Lakhwinder Singh, reached the spot and arrested four members of the gang.
They were identified as Harbajan Singh alias Sonu, a resident of Harnam Nagar, Nirvair Singh alias Nehla and his brother, Nirmal Singh alias Dehla, a resident of Wariam Nangal and Abhishek Kumar, a resident of Bhandari Mohalla.
Their accomplices who managed to flee were identified as Gokul, Deepak Kumar, both residents of Nehru Gate, and Ramesh Singh, a resident of Talwandi Barth.
The SSP said that all the accused were wanted in several criminal cases registered against them at various police station.
A case under sections 399, 402, 411, 414, 489ABC and 120B of IPC, 25, 27, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act and 18, 21, 22, 61 and 85 of NDPS Act has been registered against all the accused.
