Gang of snatchers busted, 6 held

The Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) staff claimed to bust a gang of snatchers with the arrest of six people on Thursday. Accused were hatching plan to loot people at a vacant plot near Old Sessions Court.

The Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) staff claimed to bust a gang of snatchers with the arrest of six people on Thursday. Accused were hatching plan to loot people at a vacant plot near Old Sessions Court.


The police have also recovered five mobile phones, one motorcycle, `1 lakh in cash and one sharp-edged weapon from them.

The accused have been identified as Sunny Kalyan alias Sunny of Gopal Nagar of Chhoti Haibowal, Vikas Mehta alias Kasa of Mohalla Inder Prast, Simranjit Singh alias Bhullar of Sant Vihar and Swarn Singh alias Heera of Dashmesh Nagar, Raman of Dashmesh Nagar and Abhay Prabhakar alias Nanu of Ajit Nagar.

Inspector Ashok Kumar, incharge at CIA staff-1, said the accused have admitted their involvement in several cases of snatchings. A separate case under sections 379, 382, 401 and 411 of IPC against the accused at police station division number 8 had been registered.

The inspector said the accused had snatched purse from a woman near BVM School around one and a half month ago. On July 12, they had also snatched purse from a woman near DMC hospital. “The accused are drug addicts,” he added.
