Gang of snatchers busted with arrest of six

The Basti Jodhewal police station claim to have busted a gang of snatchers with the arrest of six.

One car, two motorcycles and weapons have been recovered from their possession.

The accused have been identified as Lucky of Mohalla Swatantar Nagar; Kamalpreet Singh alias Bobbby alias Giani of Mohalla Sukhdev Nagar; Bittu of Chander Lok Colony; Sooraj Singh alias Happy of Azad Nagar; Mani Gill alias Mani of Bank Colony; and Jatinder Singh of Shimla Colony.

Inspector Gurpreet Singh, station house officer (SHO), Basti Jodhewal police station, said the accused were drug addicts and already facing trials in various criminal cases.

He claimed that the accused had admitted to have committed around 35 loots and snatchings in the city, adding that they used to loot laborers returning late night from factories.

The accused were arrested on late Wednesday night following a tip-off. The SHO claimed that the accused had gathered at a vacant plot on Bahadurke Road to hatch a conspiracy to commit loot.

While six accused were arrested, four of the gang members managed to flee the spot.

The SHO said more information was expected from the accused during questioning.
