With the arrest of three persons, the Batala police on Monday claimed to have busted a gang of vehicles thieves and recovered three motorcycles from them.
In a press release here, Batala senior superintendent of police (SSP) SS Mand said after getting a tip-off, a police team laid a naka near Kala Nangal turning point on the Batala-Gurdaspur highway.
During the checking, they stopped two persons, identified as Raghbir Singh alias Bhakna, a resident of Murgi Mohalla, and Manoj Kumar, alias Mojja, a resident of Chander Nagar, who were on a motorcycle. They were not able to produce any documents of the vehicle.
When questioned further, they revealed that they had stolen the motorcycle from Murgi Mohalla about a month ago. During interrogation, they confessed that they had stolen a Royal Enfield bike and one Hero Honda motorcycle. The bikes were recovered as well.
The accused had hidden the Royal Enfield bike in the house of one Davinder Singh of Murgi Mohalla, who was also arrested in this connection.
A case under sections 379, 411 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against both the accused.
