District police on Thursday arrested four members of a gang who were blackmailing an Amritsar resident by posing as Crime Investigating Agency (CIA) members.
Jaswinder Singh had complained to the senior superintendent of police (SSP) that a group was extorting money from him by threatening to make his objectionable photos public. He revealed that he was a widower and on a friend's counsel, had gone to meet a woman in Mahilpur for remarriage.
He said when the two of them reached the said house on July 31, a woman took them in and called a group of four men who introduced themselves as CIA personnel and forced them to strip. He added that his friend did not give in but he followed their directive after which the imposters clicked his pictures with the woman. He claimed that the accused withdrew about Rs 55,000 from his bank account and demanded more if he wanted to keep the matter a secret.
The SSP marked the inquiry to DSP (D) Jiwan Kalia on whose report, a case was registered against eight persons, including four women.
