Gang rape accused gets 10 years jail

The court of additional district and sessions judge Harpreet Kaur Randhawa on Saturday awarded 10 years rigorous imprisonment to a gangrape accused, Baldev Singh, a resident of Gatt Jattan village of Dharamkot sub-division in Moga district.

The fast track court has also imposed a fine of Rs 30,000 upon him and if he fails to pay the amount he will have to undergo another year in prison.

The woman, a resident of Rajewal village in Shahkot sub-division, was gangraped by the two brothers on September 11, 2012 at 7.30 pm.

The woman in her complaint to the polcie had said that She was waiting for her village bus at Shahkot bus stand when the accused, who were known to her, offered her a lift.

The brothers then took her to an abandoned room nearby fields of Sutlej River Bridge and raped her for two days. on September 13 evening, she somehow managed to escape from the room and reached her home and narrated the incident to family members.

A case against both brothers under sections 323 (Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 376 (G) (gang rape), 506 (criminal intimidation) and 34 (Acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) was registered at Shahkot police station the next day. .

The second accused, Harmesh Singh was already declared a proclaimed offender and was yet to be arrested.
