Gangster Gaurav Sharma, better known as Goru Bachcha, was arrested by the special task force of the Punjab police from Amritsar late on Wednesday evening, it is learnt. A history-sheeter, in the latest he was on the run in a murder case in Ludhiana besides several cases registered in various parts of the state.
A separate team of the Punjab police was also camping in Jaipur on Wednesday after having received inputs that Goru was in Rajasthan. But the police claimed he was arrested from Amritsar by a separate team.
On April 7 this year, he had gunned down a three-wheeler driver, Vikrant Kumar, in Dugri locality of Ludhiana over a parking row. Later, on June 23, he pumped six bullets into his friend-turned-foe, Johny Lamba, in Manjit Nagar, Ludhiana. He suspected that Johny was passing on information about him to the police. Johny survived the attack.
Goru is facing trial in 18 cases, including those of murder, loot, attempt to murder, kidnapping and rape.
A school dropout, Goru, 23, is the son of Bittu, who runs an orchestra group and is a small-time singer. Goru was once a member of the Sachin Mohini gang, but later formed his own gang. He was arrested by Nakodar Police three years ago following an encounter after which he remained in jail for some months. Four months ago, Goraya police arrested him for possessing illegal weapons. He got bail in that case.
