The Punjab police have arrested three men for allegedly hatching the conspiracy to kill gangster Sukha Kahlwan, who was gunned down in Phagwara while being taken to the Nabha jail on January 21.

Two of the accused, Pavittar Singh and Karamjeet Singh, alias Saba, have been shown as arrested at Maqsudan and Nakodar Sadar police stations, respectively. The Phagwara police arrested the main conspirator, Gurjeet Singh alias Sonu Baba.

Police teams picked the accused a few days ago and are interrogating them at separate locations.

Pavittar and Karamjeet were allegedly part of the team which was keeping an eye on the movement of the police vehicle in which Kahlwan was being taken to the jail after a hearing.

As per the case registered against Pavittar of Nahla village on Friday, the police also recovered a revolver, two cartridges and 45gm heroin from him.

An FIR has been registered under sections 21, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act and Section 25 of the Arms Act against Pavittar at Maqsudan police station.

Karamjeet, a resident of Basti Danishmanda, Jalandhar, was arrested by Nakodar Sadar police. The Phagwara police have shown the arrest of Sonu Baba in its records on Thursday. He was taken on three-day police remand. The police have also recovered a revolver from Baba during checking near Virk village in Phagwara, as per the FIR.

Gurjeet was a friend of Navpreet Lovely, whom Kahlon had allegedly murdered on February 1, 2010. Meanwhile, the Garhshankar police have arrested Surat Singh alias Sooraj Lahoria, relative of gangster Prema Lahoria, and seized a countrymade mouser and five cartridges from him.

The police have also nabbed Baldev Raj, who was riding pillion with Sooraj on a motorcycle, and recovered a countrymade Mauser and three cartridges from him. However, the police ruled out their role in the Kahlwan murder.
On Friday, the Jalandhar rural police raided Kahlwan village and rounded up various persons.
