The students of Government Middle School, Basti Danishmanda, are having a tough time because of the stench from the garbage dump near the school.

The residents and students living near the dumping ground in Basti Danishmanda gathered outside the school on Friday to complain against the foul smell to mediapersons.

The residents said they had been facing problems due to the garbage dumped at the adjoining vacant plot.

Big heaps of garbage emanating a foul smell make it difficult for those residing near the area and for the students of Government Senior Secondary School and Government Middle School, Basti Danishmanda, adjoining the dumping zone.

The students of both the schools said they were forced to endure the smell throughout the day while they were studying.

Rakesh, a resident, said the inhabitants had been repeatedly complaining to the municipal corporation against the dumping zone but to no avail.

"We have repeatedly demanded the dumping ground should be shifted out of the town," he said.
The residents said it was becoming difficult for them to pass through the area.

"Since the monsoons, the condition has worsened. We request the authorities the dumping ground should be shifted to another place," said Manjeet Kaur, another resident.

"We had made a fresh complaint to the corporation last Wednesday and they said they would take action soon," she added.

The residents said the vacant plot was disputed and had been converted into a dumping zone since two years.

The residents alleged they had taken up the issue with the municipal council several times, but no action was taken.
