Over two weeks after a garbage dump was shifted from in front of the Senior Secondary Residential School for Meritorious Students, a garbage dump has come up in front of the school’s girls’ hostel.

Hindustan Times on July 27 had reported that a garbage dump welcomed students outside the school, following which the municipal corporation (MC) shifted the dump on August 2.

A student, requesting anonymity, said, “While going to the school in the morning, the foul smell of garbage welcomes us, which is irritating. The authorities must shift it at the earliest.”

When contacted, Paramjit Kaur Chahal, district education officer (DEO), secondary, said, “I am not aware of the garbage dump, as the MC had shifted it a few weeks ago. Students’ health is very important for us. Therefore, I will check with the MC to shift the dump.”

Amarjit Singh Sekhon, chief of health and sanitation, MC, said, “The dump may have been accidently shifted to the same place where it was earlier. We will have it removed.”

When asked why the garbage was not lifted till 2pm, he replied that from Tuesday garbage would be lifted in the morning.

Meanwhile, school’s officiating principal Anoop Kumar Passi has written to the MC to place a garbage bin on the hostel premises.
