Government College for Girls (GCG) is charging `2,400 (annually) as four-wheeler parking fee from students from this session, which was only `500 till last year.

However, the admission fee of the first year classes (BA/BSc and BCom) is only `1,600 per annum and Parent Teacher Association Fund is `1,400 (annually).

The hike in four-wheeler parking fee has left the parents upset, as it is difficult for them to pay this fee.

One of the parent requesting anonymity said, “Last year, the college was charging `1,500 from the students for four-wheeler parking and now it has been increased to `2,400. However, the SCD Government College is charging `1,200 as annual parking fee. So, why the girls college is charging so much?”

Another parent at condition of anonymity said, “In a government college, how can the authorities hike the parking fee by `1,900. This is not the end as the college authorities don't even allow students to bring mobile phones and neither the students are allowed to enter the college gate after 10 am. If any student comes after 10 am, then she is not allowed to go inside.”

It is pertinent that SCD Government College is charging `1,200, Kamla Lohtia SD College is charging `1,200 and Ramgariha Girls College is charging no fee from students for parking four wheelers in the college.

But GCG principal Gurminder Kaur denied the thing and said, “We are not charging any annual fee for the four-wheeler parking as we have asked the students to pay an amount of `200 monthly. Students who afford to bring four wheelers can pay this amount easily. The reason behind this is we have to hire a person to take care of these vehicles.”

When asked, why the students were not allowed to enter the college gate after 10 am? She said, “To maintain discipline in the college, we have made it a rule that after 10 am no girl will be allowed to enter the college. Moreover, the rule is same for all the girls, whether she is a hosteller or day scholar. Even the hostellers are asked to either sit in the library or attend classes in the college, but they cannot stay in the hostel without any reason. Moreover, it's a girl's college and we have some rules and all girls have to abide by them.

While SCD Government College principal Rajinder Singh said, “We are not charging any parking fee for four wheelers from the students. Moreover, we don't allow them to bring vehicles to the college.”
However, one of the professor at SCD Government College requesting anonymity said,
“Till last year, we were charging `1,200 annually from students as car parking fee, but this year no fee has been charged from the students for parking till now.”

Ramgariha Girls College principal Narinder Sandhu said, “Few students bring four wheelers, so we are not charging any parking fee from them.”

Kamla Lohtia SD College principal Shiv Mohan Sharma said, “We allow the students to park four wheelers in the college and we are charging `1,200 (annually) from them.”
