In a first-of-its-kind move, a bride at Kusser village in this district on Thursday performed the ritual ‘Ghudchadi’ by riding a mare, normally done by grooms.

Banwari Lal, father of 25-year-old teacher Mamta, and other family members proudly took out the procession from their house till her uncle’s house.

Lal said, “She is special to me, even more than my two sons. Grooms ride mares at marriages as a mark of responsibility. I have brought up my daughter like a son and she is capable to take on all responsibilities. I am so happy.”

Mamta said, “My family has honoured me by letting me perform the ritual. Girls are no less than boys in any field.”

Meanwhile, villagers appreciated the decision saying it is a good initiative and they would continue with it.
