Ghanaur MLA also walks out

Accusing Punjab Congress president Partap Singh Bajwa of ignoring seniority, Ghanaur legislator Madan Lal Jalalpur on Friday resigned from the party's new executive committee in the state. Accusing Punjab Congress president Partap Singh Bajwa of ignoring seniority, Ghanaur legislator Madan Lal Jalalpur on Friday resigned from the party's new executive committee in the state.

Jalalpur, a loyalist of previous state party president Captain Amarinder Singh, has asked Bajwa to redraw the list, since it includes rebel candidates from the last assembly elections and juniors promoted over seniors. "I will continue to serve the party as common worker and campaign for Patiala parliamentarian Preneet Kaur (Amarinder's wife) in the next Lok Sabha election in Ghanaur," he wrote in his resignation faxed to the party office.

"After winning as independent legislator, I declined the offer from the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) to be chief parliamentary secretary or a chairman with cabinet rank but you failed to keep my seniority," Jalalpur further wrote. Preneet Kaur had recommended his name for party general secretary. Former Mayor Vishnu Sharma, senior deputy mayor Kabir Das also are disgruntled.
