Congress MLA from Gidderbaha Amarinder Singh Raja Warring has demanded that the district administration cancel the nomination papers of the Shiromani Akali Dal candidate from the Guri Sangar block samiti seat for allegedly violating the norms.

Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, Raja alleged that the names of SAD candidate Gurvinder Kaur and her husband Jagtar Singh found mention in the voter lists of two villages.

Raja said, "Gurvinder is married to Jagtar Singh of Guri Sangar. She has the vote number 115 in her name at Guri Sangar village whereas she has another vote number 219 in her name at her paternal village Mallan in Gidderbaha constituency, where she has been registered under the name Chhinder Pal Kaur."

Raja alleged that Jagtar singh also had his name in the voter list of both villages.

He said, "It is strange that a candidate and her husband have their names in the voter lists of two villages. It is not by mistake but a conspiracy. I have demanded that the district administration cancel the nomination papers of the candidate and register a case under section 420 of the IPC against the couple."

Raja alleged, "I am afraid such tampering with of the voter lists is not possible without the involvement of officials and the officials responsible for this must be dismissed from duty."

He said, "It is not the first case of tampering with of voter lists. Earlier, we had exposed the tampering with of the voter lists of Chack Giljewala village. Now we know why the district administration was shying away from releasing the voter lists. Every day, a new scandal in the voter lists is coming to light."

Jagtar Singh, when contacted, claimed that they had informed the authorities to cancel their votes at Mallan village. "We have given it in written to the election officials to cancel our votes at Mallan village," he added.
