Doctors at Mata Kaushalya government hospital performed a rare clubfoot surgery.
Senior orthopaedician RL Mittal said the surgery was performed to remove clubfoot deformity with eight toes of a foot with bony defects on an 18-year-old girl of Fatehgarh Sahib district.
“The deformity has been corrected fully during the eight-month-long treatment, including multiple surgeries. However, her leg is shortened by 2½ inches, but the patient is walking freely with the help of shoes,” Mittal said.
Mittal added that the surgery was performed under the National Health Mission free of cost.
“Such a case has never been seen before and a new name “Octoplus Clubfoot” has been given to it, due to its resemblance with octopus. This appears to be the first of its kind case,” he said.
