Girls outperform boys in Class-12 CBSE exams

Girls outdid boys in the district in the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class-12 exams, result of which was declared on Monday morning. Of the five toppers in the four streams, four are girls.

Girls outdid boys in the district in the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Class-12 exams, result of which was declared on Monday morning.


Of the five toppers in the four streams, four are girls.

However, with 98.6% marks, it was Ritish Goyal, a student of Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School, BRS Nagar, who came first in the district across all streams.

He was followed by Ambika Goyal, who topped the commerce stream in the district. A student of Sacred Heart Convent School, Sarabha Nagar, Goyal scored 97.8%.

In medical stream, it was a tie between Isha Ramneek, a student of DAV Public School, BRS Nagar, and Amreen of Kundan Vidya Mandir, Civil Lines. They both attained 96.4%.

Ramandeep Kaur of BCM Arya Model School, topped the arts stream with 96% marks.

Students had started gathering at their schools to know their result since morning. As the results were announced, students and parents were seen in a jubilant mood and were distributing sweets.

Rev Sr Christo, principal, Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School, BRS Nagar, congratulated the students, their parents and teachers. He said Ritish Goyal had brought laurels not only to his school, but had also made his parents, teachers and the city proud.

Improvement in result

Across all four streams, the results have improved from last year. Ishani Garg of Sacred Heart Covent School, had topped the district in medical stream last year with 95.6%. Hence, the result has improved by 0.8% this year. In non-medical stream, Mehak from DAV Public School had topped the city with 97.6%, 1 % less than this year's top score.

Manpreet Kaur and Arshia Arora had topped the commerce stream with 96.4 %, while this year's top score is 97.8%.

With 95.4 % marks, Abdul Shehbaz Thind from Kundan Vidya Mandir had topped in humanities.

Non-Medical
Ritish Goyal (18), 98.6%
A student of Sacred Heart Senior Secondary School, BRS Nagar, Goyal secured 493 out of 500 marks. Son of Dr AK Goyal, an orthodontist, and Renu Goyal, a homemaker, he had scored 331 marks in the JEE main examination.

How many hours did you put in studies?
I used to study five to six hours daily after school.

Who do you owe your success to?
I give credit for my success to my tuition teachers especially, and to my parents and schoolteachers.

What is your career aim?
I want to become a computer engineer. My immediate aim is to get admission in IIT Bombay.

Did you take tuition?
Yes, I took tuition classes for maths, chemistry and physics.

What else do you enjoy besides studies?
I like to play football. Whenever I get a chance, I indulge in this game.

Who inspires you in life?
My brother, Aatish, who is pursuing mechanical engineering from IIT Bombay. He has always motivated me and advised me not to take stress.

Medical
Amreen (18), 96.4%
A student of Kundan Vidya Mandir, Civil Lines, Amreen is one of the two city toppers in medical stream. Hailing from a family of doctors (both parents, along with close relatives, are practicing doctors), she too wants to pursue medicine.

How many hours did you put in studies?
I am not at all a bookworm. Instead, I never cut out on my two favourite activities, which are eating and sleeping. Yet, I studied enough in a day to score well.

What do you owe your success to?
My consistency, as I never waited until the last moment for preparation, but studied throughout the year. I also owe my success to my unwavering faith in my teachers and their advice.

What is your career aim?
I wish to become a successful doctor.

Did you take tuition?
Yes, almost for four hours a day. But this was to prepare myself for the competitive entrance examinations.

What else do you enjoy besides studies?
I like to dance for rejuvenation.

Who inspires you in life?
My mother, who I consider near perfect.

Isha Ramneek (18), 96.4%
Ramneek shares the first position with Amreen in the medical stream with exactly same score. A resident of Aggar Nagar and student of DAV Public School, BRS Nagar, she is an only child. Her mother is a school principal, while her father is a faculty member at GADVASU.

How many hours did you put in studies?
I used to put in at least six hours of self-study everyday after school.

What do you owe your success to?
Hard work and faith in God has kept me motivated throughout and earned me this success.

What is your career aim?
I want to become a doctor. Though no one in my immediate family is a doctor, most have been associated with science.

Did you take tuitions?
I did, but for competitive examinations. Otherwise, the school had prepared us enough for the board exams.

What else do you enjoy besides studies?
I like to watch television in free time. I enjoy reading newspapers as well.

Who inspires you in life?
I look up to my grandfather, who retired as a senior faculty member from Punjab Agricultural University.

Ambika Goyal (18), 97.8
A resident of Sarabha Nagar, Goyal has emerged the topper in commerce stream. She is a student of Sacred Heart Convent School, Sarabha Nagar.

How many hours did you put in studies?
I used to study with concentration for eight to nine hours every day besides school.
What do you owe your success to?
The fact that I was very thorough with my syllabus. I knew if I studied the books well, I will definitely do well.
What is your career aim?
I have no plans for the future, except that for my graduation, I want to study at Delhi University. I am eyeing Shri Ram College for Commerce, but that is very competitive. Lady Shri Ram College for Women is my second bet.
Did you take tuition?
Yes, I did. And for the last two months, I took external help for all subjects.
What else do you enjoy besides studies?
I love to paint.
Who inspires you in life?
I have no icon. I want to be successful and have a happy life.

A music lover, Kaur is a student of BCM Arya Model School, Shastri Nagar. Though music is her first passion, she wants to pursue law and says she wishes to help bring justice to the needy.

How many hours did you put in studies?
I did not chart a daily schedule for myself. In fact, I did most of my studies at school. I was highly attentive in class throughout the year.
What do you owe your success to?
I have achieved this by the grace of God. My persistence and patience too has paid off.
What is your career aim?
I want to become a lawyer and specifically help those who are not able to seek justice.
Did you take tuition?
I did not. It was all self-study for me.
What else do you enjoy besides studies?
I write poetry in Punjabi and English. I also play harmonium at home.
Who inspires you in life?
Besides my family, it is Kiran Bedi. I like her dedication, honesty and upfront approach to problems.
