GNDU, Pbi varsity cyclists shine on opening day

Hosts Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) and Punjabi University, Patiala, shared the honours on the opening day of the All India -University Track Cycling (MW) Championship that got underway on the GNDU campus here on Friday.

HS Randhawa, deputy director, sports, GNDU, said as many as 50 teams comprising nearly 400 cyclists from various universities were participating in the championship.

In the opening event, 1500 m team trail (men), Sukhchain Singh, Kumar Gaurav, Prabhjit Singh and Rajbir Singh from Punjabi University stood first, while Athoktanbike Singh, Karanvir Singh, Anil Kumar and Manohar Lal of GNDU bagged the second spot, whereas Dilawar Singh, Niraj, Pankaj and Dilpreet from Kurukeshtra University secured the third spot.

In women category, Gargi, Kezia Verghese, Parwati VG and Manisha G from GNDU stood first, while Rekha Rani, Seema Rani, Priyanka and Sandeep Kaur from Punjabi University remained second, whereas Krishna MS, Athira Mohan, Bismi S and Amala Vinod from Kerala University came third.

In the elimination race (men's category): Pankaj Kumar from Kurukeshtra University bagged the top honour followed by Mohit Kumar from Punjabi University, while Anil Kumar of GND came third.
