GNDU V-C nominates new senate members

Faridkot; Prof Baldev Singh Dhillon, vice-chancellor, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana; and Prof Arun Kumar Grover, vice-chancellor, Panjab University, Chandigarh; have been nominated as members of the senate of Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) by vice-chancellor Ajaib Singh Brar.

Prof SS Gill, vice-chancellor, Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot; Prof Baldev Singh Dhillon, vice-chancellor, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana; and Prof Arun Kumar Grover, vice-chancellor, Panjab University, Chandigarh; have been nominated as members of the senate of Guru Nanak Dev University (GNDU) by vice-chancellor Ajaib Singh Brar.


Prof SS Gill, vice-chancellor, Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot; Prof Rajinder Mohan Singh Chhina, honorary secretary of Khalsa College Governing Council; Jagdish Singh, director, Sant Singh Sukha Singh schools, Amritsar, have been co-opted as members of the syndicate of Guru Nanak Dev University.

These nominations were made by the V-C as he was authorised by the senate of the university, which met at the senate hall of the university on Tuesday.

The meeting was held under the chairmanship of Brar. A syndicate meeting was also held in the evening in the syndicate room of the university.

In his address, the vice-chancellor said, "Students of M Phil and Ph D will get scholarship during their studies and our target is to enrol 1,000 students during the next academic year. GNDU is the first university in the state to introduce Punjabi compulsory subject at undergraduate level for non-Punjabis as well as other students who have not passed Punjabi in the matric exam."

He said the decision would benefit those students who wished to render their services in Punjab after completion of their degrees, and also spread and popularise the Punjabi language as per the objective of Guru Nanak Dev University.

He said the university was planning to create more infrastructure and hostel facilities for students and stressed that the fee was not increased during this academic session; only a small increase in hostel fee was effected to provide better facilities to students.

The senate also approved permanent affiliation to KC College for Education, Nawanshahr; Government
College, Patti; and Physical Education College, Patti as per the decision of the Punjab government as constituent colleges of Guru Nanak Dev University and temporary affiliation to DIPS Co-Educational College, Dhilwan, Kapurthala; SGAD Khalsa College, Chola Sahib, Tarn Taran; and Khalsa College, Chawinda Devi, Amritsar.
