Gold ornaments worth Rs 1.5 crore confiscated

The local police claimed to have confiscated 5.5kg gold ornaments worth `1.5 crore from two persons from the Shambhu barrier on Friday.

The local police claimed to have confiscated 5.5kg gold ornaments worth Rs 1.5 crore from two persons from the Shambhu barrier on Friday.

Deputy superintendent of police Rajinder Singh Sohal said the ornaments were recovered during checking of a bus coming from New Delhi.

Sohal said two persons, indentified as Bhim Rao Khanna and Naman Bapana, had the the ornaments but they failed to provide any authenticated documents related to the ornaments.


The police have informed the excise and taxation department about the recovery for further investigation.

The police said, during preliminary investigation, it came to the fore that they have brought the ornaments from Banglore and were going to deliver the same at renowned jeweler in Ludhiana.

"No information was provided at Punjab-Haryana border about inflow of gold ornaments into Punjab's jurisdiction", Sohal said.

He added that excise officials have asked both the persons to produce documents and bills pertaining to ornaments.
