The report of the inquiry into the violence that broke out in the Golden Temple complex during the 30th anniversary of Operation Bluestar on June 6 is before Akal Takht jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh.
He received it on Wednesday here from a five-member investigating team of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC). The report had first gone to SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar last week.
After the findings were brought to him on behalf of Makkar, Giani Gurbachan Singh told the media: “We (the Sikh clergy) will look into the report and give our views to the Darbar Sahib (Golden Temple) manager.” Asked whether he favoured pardoning those involved in the clash and asking the SGPC to withdraw the criminal case filed against them, he said: “Let us first deliberate on the SGPC report.”
He said the 22 people arrested in the case had agreed to undergo religious punishment already for breaching the “maryada” (code of Sikh tradition), as their parents and relatives had conveyed to the jathedar last month.
