More than a fortnight after three-and-a-half years Gurmilap Singh of Ferozepur was kidnapped while his family slept nearby in the Golden Temple 'parikarma', Amritsar police are yet to make any arrest and are now turning to the public for help to crack the case.
The child was found abandoned two days later outside a gurdwara, with his hair shorn. He was re-united with his family.
Police officials investigating the matter have neither been unable to identify the accused or gather more information on their whereabouts ever since. Consequently, they have now turned to the public for help, planning to give cash reward to person(s) providing information about the kidnappers of the minor boy.
"A suitable reward would be given to those giving information about the kidnappers,' said police commissioner Ram Singh.
The child had accompanied his parents and other family members to the Golden Temple to pay obeisance on June 7 at 9pm. The boy was kidnapped while his family was asleep in the 'parikarma' at night. A case under Sections 363 and 365 of the IPC was registered at Kotwali police station on the complaint of his father Manjit Singh.
The police commissioner said that the CCTV footage examined during investigation showed some men and women carrying along the child. "People who can either identify the accused or have any knowledge about them can contact the SHO or munshi of the Kotwali police station," he maintained. The police commissioner said that besides reward, the identity of the informant would be kept secret.
