Government Senior Secondary School, Dakala, now has an English lab, a novel initiative which has been the brain-child of English teacher Ajaib Singh Tiwana.

"The thought of setting up a lab where students can work on their English language skills occurred to me when I attended a British Council workshop in Japiur in 2009," he said.

A room was allotted to me and it took me a year to renovate it and arrange the equipment.

The funds, around Rs 30,000, spent to set up the lab were contributed by faculty members of the school. The lab is equipped with an over-head projector, laptop, special speakers and DVD player.
The school has now produced three consecutive batches of students in elective English with 100% result.

Principal Sudesh Kumari added that the lab aimed to make it easy for students to learn the language. Kumari added that lab would be used for two sessions a day. DVDs of English news recordings and other lessons will also be made available.
