Government sets up various helplines for public assistance
To encourage the public to lodge their complaints and take advantage of various schemes being run by different departments, the Punjab government has started toll-free helplines.

Amritsar deputy commissioner Ravi Bhagat said that these helplines have been started to prevent harassment of people in provision of services and provide the same to them in the comfort of their homes.
Bhagat maintained that a helpline number 104 has been instituted for free medical consultation, while toll free number 1800110456 has been started for tobacco control. Bhagat said that the helpline number available for women and children is 1091. He said that for power related problems or complaints one can dial 1912.
The helpline number of education department is 18001372215 whereas that of water supply department is 18001802468 . NRI's can register their complaints on 0172-2298548 and the toll-free anti-corruption helpline is 180018001000.
