Ad hoc and guest faculty lecturers of local government college have gone on indefinite strike against alleged audacity of the principal.

On Tuesday, the protesters boycotted work and started a sit-in on the campus. The agitating staff alleged that principal Neelam Bhardwaj had given orders to four expecting guest faculty lecturers even when they were regularly doing their duties.

One of them Maninderjit Kaur, approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court and got a stay on the orders but in spite of that the principal went ahead with the interview, they added.

Maninderjit said when she confronted the principal on the issue, she was abused and was pushed aside by a close confidante of the college head.

"I requested Madam that I should be allowed to continue till the time my health permitted but she was adamant and asked me to go home and also inform others who were also to proceed on maternity leave in the months to come", claimed Maninderjit.

The principal, however, refuted the charges and said, "We had only empanelled certain names so that no time is wasted when the expecting teachers go on leave. It was done in the interest of the students and with the consent of the PTA. There was no intension of replacing any one. The concerned teacher is charging allegations as she fears that she might lose her job to more qualified candidates," said Bhardwaj.

She also denied charges of misbehaviour, stating that it was Maninderjit and her two colleagues who had used indecent language against her. "I am ready to sort out the matter but the agitating teachers are not responding positively," said the principal.
