Chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda on Tuesday announced to exempt fruits and vegetables from the market fee to check their prices.
Hooda said that fruits and vegetables had been omitted from the schedule of Haryana Agricultural Produce Markets Act, 1961 for this purpose and there would not be any restrictions on the movement of the horticulture produce in the state.
Hooda said that earlier, the rate of market fee was reduced from 2% to 1% from September 1, 2012, which now has been nullified.
This will minimise the tax burden on the consumers and will bring down the price of fruits and vegetables. He said that the annual financial implication of this decision would be about Rs 40 crore - Rs 20 crore of market fee and about Rs 20 crore of HRDF.
