The Punjab government has decided to give a government job to one family member of the victim. Rural development minister Surjit Singh Rakhra conveyed this decision to the girl's family during his visit to Badshahpur village on Friday. Notably, Rakhra had been sent by Badal to visit the family.
"As directed by the CM, one family member would get a government job, besides monetary help for the family," Rakhra said.
As demanded by residents of the area, the government appointed a woman constable as station house officer (SHO) of Gagga police station with immediate effect. The previous SHO, Gurcharan Singh, had been dismissed on Thursday along with ASI Naseeb Singh.
Meanwhile, National Commission for Women (NCW) member Shamina Shafiq also met the victim's family and took details of the case from the police.
"The role of the police in this case is really shameful. It's unfortunate that the girl ended her life after being police help. The dismissal of a few local police officials is only an eyewash. Senior police officers should also be held responsible," said Shafiq.
