Ludhiana district Congress (urban) president Pawan Dewan on Tuesday said the promise of the SAD-BJP government to make Punjab a power surplus state turned out to be false.

"In the paucity of electricity, industries are forced to move to other states," said Dewan.

Congress MLA Surinder Dawar, who was also present at the worker's meeting at Bajwa Nagar, recounted the efforts made by local MP and minister of information and broadcasting Manish Tewari in waving off of the central excise duty for the hosiery industry. "Tewari has always been a front runner to solve the problems of Ludhiana industry," said Dawar.

Meanwhile, the Congress leaders also criticised the VAT refund policy of the Punjab government. "The BJP has also failed to solve the problems of urban industry in Punjab. It is open loot by the SAD-BJP coalition," said Dawar.

Dawar said the government loot would further lead to unemployment and youth unrest in the state.

On this occasion, Dewan and Dawar appointed Amit Madan as vice-president of the district Congress.
