Govt schoolteachers meet DPI, raise demands

A delegation of Government School Teachers' Union, Punjab, met director of public instructions (DPI) of both secondary and elementary education and director general of school education (DGSE) regarding their demands on Friday.

In a press note issued by the union here on Saturday, press secretary Sanjeev Sharma said, “DPI (secondary) Kamal Garg, in a meeting, informed us that the teachers of classical and vernacular cadre will get promotions soon.”

Sharma also claimed Garg assured that promotions of master cadre would be conducted in the second week of April 2014. “We were given assurance that the cases of teachers, who are now working as masters and have not been promoted as lecturers, will be sent to district education officers by January 10, 2014.”
“DPI (elementary) Darshan Kaur assured us that the promotions of block primary education officers will be conducted by January 15, 2014. Kaur also said teachers, who work under zila parishad would be brought under education department,” Sharma added.

“Kaur said they will issue grant for the payment of pending electricity bills in different primary schools. She also assured us of regularizing the handicapped teaching fellows,” Sharma further claimed.

Balkar Valtoha, president of the union said DGSE Kumar Rahul had admitted that the students can't get uniform in only at Rs 400. He added that the DGSE had also assured them to consider about school timings. The teachers demanded the school timing to be 9:45am-3pm during winters.
