Granthi arrested for running brothel

punjab Updated: Aug 21, 2012 14:58 IST

The granthi of a local gurdwara was arrested on Monday for running a brothel from his house at Lahori Gate here.

SSP Ravcharan Brar said, "A police team raided the house of Tajinder Pal Singh Baba at around 2pm on a tip-off and found a couple in a compromising position in the bedroom. Ranjit, 24, is a resident of local Ajit Nagar, and Narinder Kaur, 38, of Tanda Churrian village near Mukerian.

Locals were fed up with the activities of Baba and they approached me, following which I ordered the raid," he added.

"The house was being used as a brothel for long. When the police team reached there, they found the Guru Granth Sahib placed in the house in an improper way. They also found a few pairs of choorha (wedding bangles), wedding dresses, boxes of vermilion and marriage jewellery, which indicated that Baba arranged fake marriages and issued fake marriage certificates," an eyewitness said.

Mohan Singh, assistant manager of the local state gurdwara, told HT, "I was called by the local police. When I reached there I found the violation of the code of conduct and disrespect being shown to the Guru Granth Sahib. We brought the Guru Granth Sahib to the local state gurdwara."

Police have arrested Tajinder, Ranjit and Narinder under the Prevention of Immoral Trafficking Act.
