A granthi at a gurdwara in Ghatti Harikee village and a woman were booked on charges of outraging religious feelings and committing an obscene act in the gurdwara premises on Wednesday night.
The duo was caught by worshippers while engaging in intimate relations. As per information, granthi Nishan Singh, who has been serving at the gurdwara for the last twenty years was caught by devotees with a woman (her fake name being Reeta) inside a room of the gurdwara.
The incident led to an uproar in the vicinity and a large number of people from adjoining villages reached there.
The incident led to a ruckus when the duo was allegedly manhandled by the devotees. Later, police arrived at the spot and arrested the accused.
Locals said Nishan Singh was caught thrice earlier in a similar situation and was given a warning to mend his ways but all in vain.
Ferozepur senior superintendent of police (SSP) Manminder Singh said the granthi and the woman had been booked under Sections 295-A (deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) and 294 (obscene acts and songs) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at Makhu police station and further investigation was in progress.
