Avtar Singh, 50, security guard of the local Third Eye security agency was murdered on Thursday night here outside its office. He was from Ubhawal village in the district. The agency belongs to retired deputy superintendent of police Ashok Mohan and the guard was deployed at the main gate. Inspector Sukhdev Singh, in charge of the Sangrur (city) police station, said the guard had been stabbed in the chest around 11.30pm and declared dead at the hospital 15 minutes later.

On the complaint of the guard’s brother, the police have registered a case of murder against unidentified people. Avtar’s employer, Ashok Mohan, said he had got to know about the incident from his neighbours on telephone around 11.15pm. “We moved Avtar to the civil hospital but doctors could not save him,” he added.

The police will now study the footage from a surveillance camera to get a clue about the murderers.
