The Punjab government on Tuesday announced the Shiromani awards of the language department for 2012, 2013 and 2014.

Mohammad Sadique, Gurdas Mann and Surinder Shinda have been selected for the Shiromani Punjabi Singer Award.

Niranjan Singh Sathi, Susheel Dosanjh and Varinder Walia have been selected for the Shiromani Punjabi Sahitak Patarkar award, while Amar Singh Bhuller, Harjinder Singh Lal and Bhushan Sood have been selected for the Shiromani Punjabi Patarkar Award.

The names were announced on Tuesday by higher education and languages minister Surjit Singh Rakhra after being finalised by the advisory board constituted for the same.

The Punjabi Sahit Rattan Award will be bestowed on Kirpal Singh Kasel, Ajmer Aulakh and Niranjan Singh Tasneem. These eminent personalities would be given a prize money of Rs 10 lakh each.

Rakhra said winners of 17 other categories would also be given a prize money of Rs 5 lakh each. He said the board had selected Mohan Bhandari, Baldev Singh Sadaknama and Avtar Singh Bling for the Shiromani Punjabi Sahitkar Award. He said Mahesh Patialavi, Mohammad Iqbal and Renu Behal had been selected for the Shiromani Hindi Sahitkar Award.

The Shiromani Sanskrit Sahitkar Award will be given to Shashidhar Sharma, Bhushan Lal Sharma and Lekh Raj Parwana and the Shiromani Punjabi Poet Award will go to Jaswinder (Gazalgo), Gurbhajan Gill and Kulwant Singh Grewal.

The Shiromani Punjabi Critic/Research Sahitkar Award will be given to Dr Surjit Singh Bhatti, Dr Balkar Singh and Dr Tejwant Gill. The Shiromani Punjabi Gyan Sahitkar Award will go to Balwant Singh Kotha Guru, Dr Kirpal Singh and Prof Aschru Singh.

To honour prominent literary NRI personalities under the Shiromani Punjabi Sahitkar (foreign) Award, Kesar Singh Neer, Gurbhaksh Singh Bhandal and Ajit Singh Rahi have been selected by the board. The Shiromani Punjabi Sahitkar (Out of Punjab) Award will be given to Chandan Negi, Rashpinder Rashim and Khalid Hussain.

The Shiromani Punjabi Bal Sahit Award will be bestowed on Santosh Sahni, Aatma Singh Chitti and Amrik Singh Talwandi.

The Shiromani Ragi Award will be given to Bhai Hari Singh, Prof Kartar Singh and Bhai Jaswant Singh. The Shiromani Dhadhi/Kavishar Award will be given to Brij Lal Dhaula, Mohinder Singh Sibea and Des Raj Lachkani.

The Shiromani Punjabi Television, Radio, Film Purskar will be given to Buta Singh Shad, Satish Kaul and Baldev Gill. The Shiromani Punjabi Natak Purskar will go to Devinder Daman, Gurcharan Channi and Pali Bhupinder.

Rakhra said six prominent personalities have been chosen for special awards. He said that Devinder Singh Chitarkar and Raghbir Singh Bains will get Rs 1.5 lakh while Pandit Rao Thairesanwar, Ranjit Rana, Malkit Singh Guara and Bachan Singh Saral will get Rs 1 lakh each.
