The state government has finally given the go-ahead to the much-delayed project of the district administrative complex (DAC), which would provide all public services under one roof.
In 2006, the then chief minister Amarinder Singh had laid the foundation stone of the Rs 33-crore project that was to come up on 8.5 acre of land on Jail Road.
The first instalment of the grant was released by the government, which remained unused following a controversy among local leaders about the project site. The project kept hanging fire for years till deputy commissioner Abhinav Trikha got it through recently. Now it will come up on five acre of land adjoining the under-construction judicial complex.
Sources said the Punjab Urban Planning and Development Authority would construct the DAC building.
