Gurdaspur continued to be under curfew on Saturday due to simmering tension even as district authorities relaxed restrictions for two hours from 6.30am in the morning to enable people to buy essential commodities.
However, people rued that they had not been informed by authorities in time about curfew relaxation. “Officials came to our locality at around 8am to tell us that curfew restrictions had been relaxed in the town from 6.30am till 8.30am,” remarked a local.
Meanwhile, it was learnt that a procession scheduled to be taken out in connection with Ramnavmi was not taken out due to tension. Though authorities asked the organizers to go ahead with the procession, the latter refused to take out the religious march.
Reports in the afternoon said that the kith and kin of the deceased youth Jaspal Singh had refused to cremate the body till a senior police officer was suspended and another booked for the firing incident that occurred on March 29.
