Government College Stadium is being readied on war footing to host four league matches on December 4 of the fourth World Kabaddi Cup to be held from November 30 to December 14.
Taking stock of the arrangements at the stadium on Saturday, deputy commissioner Abhinav Trikha told mediapersons a large number of spectators were expected to attend the gala event; therefore, all arrangements were being made.
He further said different committees were formed for different tasks during the matches. The seating arrangements for the VVIPs, VIPs, press and others had been planned to avoid chaos during the function, said the DC.
The stage for artistes' performance during the function was erected at some distance from the spectators' gallery, he said, adding that the parking sites were chosen too.
He further said the arrangements of players' lodging, food and transportation were completed.
The first match at the stadium would be played between Scotland and Sierra Leone; second between Pakistan and Denmark; third between the women' teams of England and Mexico; and the fourth match would be between Canada and England, said the DC, adding that noted Punjabi singer Satinder Singh Bugga would be entertaining the spectators during the function.
Divulging details of the security arrangements, senior superintendent of police (SSP) Sukhwant Singh Gill said foolproof security arrangements was made to make the event a success.
The security personnel and civil officers would work in tandem to ensure smooth progression of the sporting event, said the SSP.
